Here are a few ways in which consuming fiber rich foods can help you drop a few extra pounds.

  • Fiber rich foods such as vegetables, fruits, and whole grain breads and cereals have to be chewed more so this slows down eating. Because of this there is a chance that you will feel full before you have the chance to overeat.
  • Fiber has a space-filling effect that helps make you feel more full.
  • Fiber also helps stimulate the secretion of both saliva and gastric juices which fill the stomach and make you feel more full.

I read somewhere that eating spicy foods has the same effect to make you feel more full. I also read that eating spicy foods releases endorphins much like when you exercise. When I'm looking for a snack, I lean towards chips and hot salsa. I drink a lot of water because of the hot salsa and find myself feeling full rather quickly after only eating a bit. Its the win-win snack in my book. Just don't eat too many chips!

High fiber weight loss diets are bulky and therefore a person gets full fast when eating a high fiber meal. Their bulkiness helps fill the stomach within minutes. Another reason why a high fiber foods are necessary for people who are overweight is the fact that it contain very low calories. This is probably one of the best reasons why weight loss watchers consider a diet with high fibers.
