People who eat eggs for breakfast could be giving themselves a greater chance of losing weight, according to a scientific study.

Research at Louisiana State University asked some overweight women who were already on a low-fat diet to eat two eggs for breakfast for eight weeks, while others ate a bagel 1 in the morning.

Those who ate eggs lost 65 per cent more weight, had 83 per cent greater reductions in waste circumference2 and reported greater improvements in energy levels than participants who ate bagels.

According to the scientists, these findings add to a body of research suggesting that egg consumption promotes weight loss but also provides choline, an essential nutrient that promotes brain and memory development.

A separate study carried out by scientific consulting firm Exponent in Washington DC has also concluded that the contribution of eggs to coronary 3heart disease risk is "insignificant".

It is thought that the findings of the research could be used to challenge recommendations4 that egg consumption should be restricted, particularly when it is considered that eggs contain protein, folate iron and zinc for only around 75 calories.

Does it matter how you cook the eggs? Could you fry them or scramble them? Or Should they be boiled?!?

Really? Do you have eggs every morning? I'd say I have eggs about once every 2 weeks. I love them scrambled or in omelet form.

I'd guess I eat 10 or more a week.

They used to say that the yokes raised cholesterol levels, but I've since read that only applies if you have a cholesterol problem. Whilst I can eat them, I'll do so - in quantity.

Full of protein and I love 'em! :D

One way of poaching eggs is to have a saucepan full of boiling water with a bit of salt in it, and you simply crack the egg into it (usually after stirring the water to create a vortex so the eggs retain a better shape). Here's a youtube demonstration by an Aussie boke:

However, the way I do it it is with an egg poacher. Usually, this is a wide-bottomed pan with a sort of inner lid that has holes in it that contain small 'cups' for the eggs. You have to use a touch of butter or similar to stop them sticking, but not much. The outer lid holds in the steam and cooks the egg. I have a single egg poacher- like a miniature saucepan, and about 70 years old- it originally belonged to my Dad's mum!

I would try it... is it like boiling an egg outside of the shell? I like boiled eggs. It the yoke runny or hard? How long should you cook it for?

Doing them straight in boiling water takes (apparently) 2m30s - 2m40s from room temperature, about 3 mins if they're straight from the fridge. I can't confirm this as I've never tried it that way, though I have eaten them after someone else has cooked them for me! :D In my little poacher it's very similar I'd guess, but I just go by the look of them now - I can just tell when they're done...

You want them so all the white has set, but the yoke is still runny. They're lovely.
